Conquering Hills

Thursday 03 May 2012 ~ Gunnison to Cotopaxi, CO

It's an amazing feeling to have full lung capacity and overall energy back at baseline. We had a significant climb today that brought us to the summit of Monarch Pass, and in my humble opinion, I climbed that hill fairly well :)

I stopped once to take a picture, although I don't know how to adequately capture the elevation change and the slope of the climb. Either way, this will probably be our last solid climb for the next few weeks until we reach West Virginia.

Lunch Stop with Larry. He was so proud of us that day, and extra generous as he bought the entire group various flavors of fresh fudge from the summit store AND hot chocolate for all of us as it was quite chilly at 11,300 feet.

Probably the highest elevation we will reach on this trip. And our only stop at the continental divide :) ... Apparently, at this point, any precipitation that falls will flow either to the west toward the Pacific or east to the Atlantic. Learn something new every day.

Group Pic: It was fun to see each rider coming up the last turn. Our cheering section gradually grew and got stronger as riders conquered the mountain.

Impromptu stop, Rosy had a staple that punctured his back tire.

Always a pain to change a flat, and it always seems to be the more involved back tire...

Quaint town of Cotopaxi, CO.

Friday 04 May 2012 ~ Cotopaxi to Pueblo to Denver, CO

I was not enamored by the route today. My camera tells me I only took one picture over 75 miles.

Once in Pueblo, we racked and drove up to Denver as the routes into the city were supposedly too difficult for a large group of riders to navigate. Boy, the ride was a long long one. Two vans full of tired, sweaty, odorous riders...we hit both Colorado Springs and Denver traffic on the drive :(

Saturday 05 May 2012 ~ Denver Solidarity Ride

Candid Camera: Lisa and Jess, truly happy :)

Home of the Denver Broncos

Soon after this picture, we were told to leave as we were trespassing...

Nicole and Brad, future Denver residents (in more ways than one)...and possible Broncos fans?

I probably could've taken more pictures today but it was kind of a rough start to the morning as my front tire was MIA and we were already at the site for the start of the solidarity ride. Unfortunate that my mood affects my desire to take pictures...hope for better next time.
