Flats and Armadillos

Tuesday 15 May 2012 ~ Sedalia to Jefferson City, Missouri

After weeks of smooth riding, I got two flats in a row today :( ... Turned out my back tire had two holes in it. I ended up finishing the ride on Mark's bike. Other than the flats though, I had a good day overall. Lunch was at a beautiful park with a small lake. Pictures below.

The Rattler at lunch. About two miles out from lunch I got my second flat. New back tire installed.

Resting after a long day on the road. Skylar, Abramoff, Blair, Nicole, Brad.

Post-dinner hang out at J. Pfenny's. Great honey barbecue wings, but the waiter forgot my ranch even after two additional requests. I think I tipped him 57 cents...

Wednesday16 May 2012 ~ Jefferson City to Washington, Missouri

U.S. 50 has been road-kill central. The odor of decay wafts over us riders more often than not, and many times the unfortunate critter is so mangled as to be non-identifiable from a simple scan. A few of the more intact specimens are shown below. Who knew Missouri had armadillos?!

Inside joke, comments about my thighs/legs ;)

Raging debate over the proper pronunciation of "Chamois." Note: the pads in our riding shorts are called "chamois."

Hmm...

Yesterday we passed through California. California, MO. Today we're staying in Washington. Washington, MO.

The trip seems to be passing by more quickly the closer we get to Columbus and the east coast. Tomorrow we get into St. Louis, and pretty soon we'll be off to residency...bittersweet. For the most part I've had a great time over the past five-ish weeks and I've gotten to know the group and become more comfortable with everyone. Very happy to have had such an opportunity and experience.
