Monday 30 April 2012 ~ Telluride Event Day

Telluride is an idyllic ski town nestled in a narrow valley in the San Juan National Forest of southwestern Colorado. And as I'm typing this, my eyes are closing on me...I've been jumping around on this post, and this is the last little bit. Unfortunately, I can't muster anything else to say (that's at least somewhat interesting) so this will be it for now.

Brown Dog Pizza, one of the few restaurants open in Telluride as many shops and stores were closed for the off season. Excellent food there, maybe b/c I was starving, but I had an appetizer of spicy BBQ chicken wings (SO good), a full garden salad, and almost three quarters of a Detroit square pizza (originally was supposed to be split with Jessie, but she was full after one square).

Southern BBQ Chicken Square Pizza. Chris, Josh, Jess, Lisa, Blair, Laura, Rosenfeld.

Makeshift laundry room.

Tuesday 01 May 2012 ~ Telluride to Montrose, CO

I can be stubbornly competitive when I put my mind to it, and today was one of those days. The last 26 miles to Montrose was a battle against a strong headwind, and I was determined to beat the apparently tireless wind. And it was actually exhilarating to see my odometer hovering above 22.0 mph as I powered forward, imagining my legs as pistons, keeping a rhythm like the chugging wheels of a train. It was a great work out, and also was my first sustained power riding since getting sick last Monday. Felt amazing.

Today's route was pretty enough, but nothing spectacular, hence the lack of photos. But I uploaded some random fun ones below. Enjoy :)

Rest Stop #1: We went to town on the snack box :)

Lunch Stop: I didn't catch the name of this tiny town, but I did see their fire department...not sure if it is still in service.

Still riding with my balaclava on, but no white jacket today as the lower elevation meant higher temperatures.

$5 Masago: I splurged just a lil bit in Montrose, seemed like ages since I had seen a sushi place.

United Methodist Church, Montrose, CO: our home for the evening.

Tomorrow we head directly east on U.S. Route 50 to Gunnison, CO. I'll be on crew again, which is why I'm still up blogging while everyone else around me is asleep already (some have started to snore :)

  1. I misread balaclava as baklava haha and that fire station looks a bit rundown lol.
