Human Windshield

Thursday 10 May 2012 ~ Lyons to Herington, Kansas

Any day with 90+ miles of riding is invariably a long day. Thus, most of these days riding through Kansas have been LONG. Our group consensus is that the more our bottoms take a beating, the longer the day, and 90+ miles on a bike seat takes a heavy toll.

Yet another row of sleeping bags in a gym. And bikes. Dinner, all sitting together as one big happy family :)

All piled into one van to PLA-BOWL LANES.

Friday 11 May 2012 ~ Herington to Topeka, Kansas

We are well past central Kansas and its great plains, headed ever east toward our nation's capitol. The start of rolling hills was a welcome change of pace because on multiple occasions over the past week, I found myself literally falling asleep on the Rattler. Who knew that was even possible?! It was the same feeling you get behind the wheel during long stretches of freeway driving.Unbelievable. I attributed it to the absolute dearth of sensory stimulation riding through western Kansas' plains.

Let the rolling hills begin!

Morning event at Herington High School.

Introducing the team before we rolled out for the 98-miler to Topeka.

Lisa, our bold leader, stayed behind to give the presentation.

Contrasting modes of transportation. Nicole, Ken, Reena from left to right.

Change in scenery.

Lunch Stop in Allen, KS

Any one for some girly beer? :)

Gnats galore! I was (am) the human windshield. It's unfortunate that one of my memorable impressions of Kansas will be the shear number of gnats in the air. Through the first four states, I never had this problem. Oh, Kansas...

Photo shoot courtesy of Brad. I'm keeping with the black and white theme for my warm weather outfit.

This time with my Rattler in the picture. Lodgings at the Southern Hills Mennonite Church in Topeka, KS.

Only one more day of riding before we all get a day off on Sunday in Kansas City! And by Monday we'll be in Missouri, more than halfway done with our trip. May the good times continue to roll :)
